Athens Land Trust

Athens Land Trust and partner organizations will build a cascading series of cohorts over five years to engage participant farmers in farm business education with the overarching goal being to increase the receipt of federal funding programs such as EQIP grants, FSA loans and NRCS conservation measures.  The project is intentionally designed to feature the farmer participants as teachers sharing information and knowledge within each group and from cohort to cohort.  This dynamic will foster building social capital within the group with the hope that each farmer will not only receive greater amounts of funding through federal programs, but that they will also empower one another through building a resilient network.  In addition to increasing the rate of receipt for government funding programs and building social capital in underserved farmers we will also endeavor to increase knowledge and improve outcomes in issues pertaining to land tenure, succession planning, and heirs property.  Throughout the project we will build the GA FarmLink to be the go to source for land matching and technical assistance as it pertains to land tenure, leasing, purchasing, heirs property and business education oriented to result in higher receipt of federal funding opportunities.
